The assembly shown below is threaded together, welded, then the bottom has the weld milled away to flat.

We currently add a weld bead (just a revolve base) to the shaft part to depict the weld, then the detail drawing to turn the part is one config, and another config is shown in the welded assy to show the material added, then milled away with a cut for the final operation.
