Need a way to reliably get the value of the overall thickness of a layered panel created as an assembly, and then use this value in a higher level assembly (preferably in a design table) in order to create a box using a few panels.

The panel itself is an assembly file, with parts that are being controlled by a dimension table, with a few configurations that accommodate for the changes to the thickness
