Definition of Forum content types

The following guidelines can be used to help determine what type of content falls into the different areas within the forums.


Note
: Login to the SolidWorks Forums only requires a SolidWorks Customer Login (Subscription Service not required).

 

Discussions:

  • The message is short and you are searching for feedback or an answer.


  • Meant for customer interactions (initial posting).


  • The style is informal.


  • The comments are more valued than the intial post.


  • Comments can be marked as the answer by the author or moderator.


 

Repository: SolidWorks Forums - Discussions

Access: Open to all (with or without being logged in), commenting requires login (Guest or Subsription Service account types)

 

 

Solutions (KB):

  • Short FAQ with no graphics.


  • The language is more formal, or in the third person.


  • Placed in appropriate Area/Sub-Area.


  • Tagged with SolidWorks (major only) version.


  • Accessible within the KB or linked from the Forums and online Documentation.


 

Repository: Solutions – Knowledge Base

Access: Subscription Service Customers only

 

 

Documents:

  • FAQ or how-to/best practice article with graphics and video.


  • API example macro or project.


  • Keep to short and to the point, no more than 1 to 2 pages in length.


  • The language is more formal, or in the third person.


  • Placed in appropriate Category/Sub-Category.


  • Tagged with SolidWorks version.


  • Viewing and commenting for Subscription Service Customers only.

  • Written by SolidWorks employees.


  • Technical articles based on Forum categories.
  • Talk about an experience or lessons learned or share an opinion.
