SOLIDWORKS Sell release updates in June 2019 (R2.11.4)

Blog Post created by Oboe Wu Employee on Jun 4, 2019

Dear all,

I'm excited to share that SOLIDWORKS Sell just added WebAR for Android devices on June 3.

Android Operating System accounts for about 3/4 of the global market share. This new enhancement will empower significantly more users to benefit from the plug-play Augmented Reality (AR).

  • With an Android component (ARCore 1.9 or later), you can simply use popular browsers such as Chrome and Safari to play with 3D configurators and see personalized models in your space.
  • You don't need to place a special QR code on a surface to anchor a digital model. The software finds a surface itself.
  • You don't need special helmets, glasses, goggles or theaters either. Simply pull out your smartphone and you can enjoy the immersive AR experiences.
  • You can see how a personalized model looks in your kitchen, dining room or a construction site. To be honest, I'm frequently surprised by how big or small a model actually shows up in my space. The 100% display scale in a physical space provides a direct sense of sizes, which can help you and your customers to make more informed decisions.
  • An independent project at Build.com shows:
    • AR users visit twice as often each month.
    • The session for an AR shopper is nearly one-minute longer
    • The return rate is 22% lower
    • In one year, Build.com increased the AR-enabled products from dozens to 650 (or 1,700 SKUs)
    • What products to enable AR?
      • Products that have lower than average conversion online, but convert easily offline.
      • Expensive or heavy items, such as a chandelier and bathtub.
  • Gartner estimated that by 2020, 100 million consumers will shop in AR

The images below illustrate the steps to play with AR on Android devices.

  1. Personalize your favorite product and touch the AR button at the upper left corner.
  2. Touch the AR button at the lower right corner on the preview.

3. Touch "View in your space" on the next screen.

4. Scan a flat surface using your camera as instructed on the screen.

5. Place the product of your choice in your space.

6. Rotate the model by rotating two fingers, zoom in/out with a pinch, double-touch to set it to the 100% scale.

Here are the system requirements:

Here are several configurators for you to play with: an office deska chair, and a speaker/projector. Have great fun.
