New Knowledge Base articles

1) Why is the SolidWorks 2011 mate command less responsive (slower) with some assemblies compared to SolidWorks 2010 or SolidWorks 2009?

This is known issue which occurred in SolidWorks 2011.  The delay is due to calculation of mass properties during creation of mates.  It can occur with assemblies created in (or converted to) SolidWorks 2011. The problem was originally reported as SPR 590652, and is fixed in SolidWorks 2011 SP5 (targeted for release in October).  Additionally, a SolidWorks 2011 SP4 hotfix is available, please see the attached HotFix_590652.exe

2)  How can a custom mesh appearance be created in PhotoView 360 and/or RealView?

In the "Surface Finish" tab of an appearance there are two predefined mesh patterns "circular hole mesh" and "diamond hole mesh". If neither these are suitable for the rendering it is possible to choose the "Custom hole mesh" surface finish type; this allows the user to use any image to create a hole mesh of any pattern.
