Question

Why does the following error message occur during the download and install?

"Could not connect to the SolidWorks server to determine which products you are entitled to install. Check the Internet connection and click retry"

Answer

This error occurs if Installation Manager could not connect to the SOLIDWORKS servers. Try the below steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Set Internet Explorer as your default browser and reset Internet explorer to default settings
  2. In the IE browser > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and click “Restore advanced settings”
  3. Still on the same tab click “Reset”
  4. Close browser and restart it
  5. Change IE compatibility mode:
In IE menu>Tools>Compatibility View (check the option)
    and or
Compatibility View Settings, check the box "Display all websites in Compatibility View"
  6. Try to download and install SOLIDWORKS

If you still face the issue, add the following domains to the firewall’s/proxy server exceptions list for the Installation Manager.

  • im.solidworks.com
  • im-ak.solidworks.com
  • dl-ak.solidworks.com

Everything is using http (port 80)

Question

Why does the installation of SOLIDWORKS Student Edition 2014 fail with different error codes as below, when installing Student Edition 2014 from a DVD?

ErrorCode: 1305

ErrorCode: 1309

ErrorCode: 1311

ErrorCode: 1335

ErrorCode: 1620

Answer

This error may mean there is something wrong with DVD - it might be scratched, dirty, etc.

To resolve the issue, try the copying the complete DVD data to a folder on your computer or on external hard disk, if that is successful, then proceed to install from copied data.  If the copy process fails with another error, then the DVD is damaged.  You may request new CDs through your local SOLIDWORKS reseller.

Question

Why does the installation of SOLIDWORKS 2014 generate a message that it is not supported on Windows® XP, when the installation is being installed on a PC that is running Windows® 7 X64?

Answer

Usually when the Installation Manager (IM) is reporting the incorrect operating system is in use it means that the SOLIDWORKS Installation Manager (IM) is running in compatibility mode.

Please try the following:

  • Right click on “sldim.exe” and select properties then select -> Compatibility; See if it is set to run as XP
  • Unselect this option if it has been set and then re-run the installation.

Note:  If running the installation from the “setup.exe” try running the installation from the “sldim.exe” found in the folder named “sldim”.
