Sometimes I start SW and there are un-docked toolbars there I rarely or perhaps never use - they seem to just pop up for no discernable reason. Anyone else get this and know how to stop it?

More usually, it will be photoworks and the plastic fastening toolbars. Less often it will be edrawings.

Thanks

SW2008 SP3.1

Started using SW2008 and I've gotta say that the stuff they changed bugs me more than it thrills me.

For starters - how can I turn off this ridiculous behaviour where I go into to edit a sketch of, in this case, a revolve and the darn thing shows a 3D preview of what it's going to be like?!?!

Sure, fine. It's fun. It's out there. It's, like, all _useful_ and stuff. I'm sure I'll love it.

But for the meantime... I can't see my stoopid sketch with all this functionality going on.

I want a white screen.

With black lines on it.

And then, when I'm ready, I want to see what it will look like.

The only thing I can think of doing is deleting a line then undeleting it.

Ech.

Thanks, that's a good workaround. Good idea.

Hi

I know icons for macro buttons have discussed before but I can't locate the threads (the forum search is totally hopeless).

First of all - can anyone tell me why the ico file format is not supported?

Secondly I am having problems with the background of the icon images. I am using the program IconWorkshop (novice) to create icons. With SW2008 the toolbars have a gradient background but when I export an icon file (with transparent background) to bmp the background turns black if I keep the Alpha channel. Otherwise The only other option is to select a specific background color (not gradient).

Has anyone messed around with icons for SW2008?

Can't assign LINE command to SpacePilot button

We recently upgraded our computers which included a 3DConnexion SpacePilot. Some sketch commands (eg. LINE) when assigned to a button on the SpacePilot are not invoked when the button is pressed. Other commands (eg. POLYGON) do work. I have run the update wizard to make sure the latest drivers are used.

Do any of you who use the SpacePilot see this same behaviour? I have tried this on several computers here with no success. I talked to our IS person and he will be contacting 3DConnexion but I thought I would put it out on this forum too. Any suggestion are welcomed.

When creating or editing a sketch, either in a part file or assembly, there is no sketch tab available. Right clicking on the tabs, shows that it's not just turned off, it's missing entirely (see image).

This is our first 64bit install. None of our 32bit versions have this problem. Is it possible that we didn't install something properly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

J.Paige

SolidWorks Office Premium 2008 x64 Edition
Dell T3400
Intel Core2 Extreme CPU X9650 @ 3.00GHZ
8GB RAM
64 Bit Vista
nVidia Quadro FX 4600

I've complained before in the forums about the SW2008 "bug" in which the display states section of the feature manager will ride up and basically take over the feature manager in assemblies. I don't use Display states at all, and even if I did, this is still annoying.

I tile my windows several times a day (which triggers it) so, this happens to me constantly. Many of my co-workers complain about it too.

I realize that many use Display States and like them. I don't. I'm not asking to eliminate the display states property manager, just give me the option to permanently minimize them, much like we do with dimension options, etc.

See the screenshots. I think this would be a perfect tradeoff for those who use them vs. those who do not.

Can anyone comment on the way colors, textures, etc are handled in 2009? I started using Solidworks only about eight months ago. I am progressing just fine. To date, the hardest thing for me is dealing with colors...especially removing colors from old part files.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but it's true. I've got file associativity down, complex mating, assemblies, etc. I just spent about ten minutes trying to make an old part NOT be green. Never got there. Green it is!

Man I hope things have changed.

Anybody messing with 2009 care to comment?

Paul

Is there anywhere is SolidWorks where you can get the part/assembly to be displayed actual size on the monitor? If I could review the model in actual size it would be very helpful.

The only way I have figured out is to hold a ruler up to the screen and zoom to somewhere close to the size of the part - not very exact.

Hello again,

I know this has been discussed before, but has anyone figured out how to assign the "Enter" key to accept changes instead of a feed return/advance to the next line? For example, when you click on a dimension and make changes, instead of having to click the "green check mark to accept, you would just hit the "Enter" key.
