I am designing a machine, that will mate next to the customer's existing machine. So, I just created a simplified version of his machine as a single part.

Of course, as time goes on, life gets more complicated. Now I want to show his machine with the actuator in two different positions. So, I just saved a copy of the part, and deleted the features on the machine base for one part, and planned on going to the copy and deleting the machine base and just leave the features that represent his actuator.

It turns out that you can't delete the base feature. Can anyone recommend a trick to do this?

Joe Dunfee

Attached is a file I found and I wanted to show the person who created it a few things they could've done a little different.

The one thing I thought you could pattern is the slots on the front and back. He sketched all the slots.

I thought the vary sketch option would work but I can't seem to get it to work at all. Any ideas? Or is a sketch the only way you can do this?? The feature is just for looks in the model, so it doesn't have to be exact because we buy this.

Thanks...!!

In the attached file, I would like to push the 4" diameter hole inward by 1/4".

What is a good suggestion as to which Solidworks tool / feature to use?

How can I push the 4" diameter feature inward by 1/4" (same as taking a 4" diameter die and pushing inward?

I've split the faces to show two different surfaces. Just playing around the part, so do with it what you will to provide feebback / example.

Thank you in advance for your help.

I don't know if this is normal behavior, but I'd think you could at least select a annotaion when you have the "display notes flat to screen" un-checked.

I have one user that likes the annotations displayed with the box un-checked, but then you can't select (or move) the annotaions until you go into tools, options and select the box.

Anyone know of a workaround, or is this user going to have to deal with it..?
I have to laugh, becaseu the users here come to me with these issues and think I actually did something to their PC..... You just have to giggle....

Hi all,

I've created a part template file called A6082 Anodised (aluminium). Not busy at work and trying to make life easier for myself and my colleagues when we get busy again. I'd like to find out it if it's possible for the part number property to match the name of the file, i.e. the part number

The majority of our Aluminium parts are anodised so under the finish property I've written down "Anodised" which will appear in all drawings regardless. Would also like to be able to automate insertion of description and drawn date.

Basically if this can be done, it will save us loads of time instead of having to manually enter properties in hundreds of parts in future projects.

God bless,

Phil.
