Hi,

My name is Charles, I've just taken over a Design Team that uses SolidWorks, I've come from an Inventor background using Vault.
I need to establish the Vault system through the our main server here, what is the best method to achieve this ??
I want each user to work in their own drives utilising library parts and assemblies from the server library and then at the end of any significant model change, check back into the vault that updated assy or part.
I realise that is a large request for instructions, so just an overall set of instructions would be great.

Thank you.

Hello All
I have a top level assembly with different subassemblies in it. In the BOM I would like to expand just a couple of the subassemblies so they show up as single item parts.
In the Bill of Material properties you an select Parts only but that will expand all sub assemblies.

Thanks in Advance

I have a model of an enclosure and a door on sheet 1. The BOM for this model is also located on sheet 1. On sheet 2, I have a more detailed view of the door only. I want the balloons on sheet 2 to reference the same item numbers that are referenced on sheet 1.

How can I accomplish this?

Hello everyone.

I've created a survey to gather some feedback about Bill of Materials usage in the SolidWorks community. It's going to be emailed to a number of SolidWorks users next week, but I thought I'd give all of you the first opportunity to contribute your opinions. You've already posted some great ideas and I'm sure your responses to the survey will be equally great. If you're interested in contributing, just follow the link below. Your feedback will be used to help determine the areas where SolidWorks should focus its development efforts around Bill of Materials in the future.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s....92kk_2fnFwXZWErA_3d_3d

Thanks!

Does anyone have a good macro to export the SW BOM to Excel using a template file? I know that you can do a 'Save As', but the Excel file created lacks any type of a reasonable format. I would also like to input some custom property information to the exported Excel BOM. I currently have a VB program that will do this for an Excel based BOM, but I do not have one for a SW based BOM. I would be willing to swap.

I am using Solid Works 2007 SP5 by request of my client on a powerful computer system with 4Gb of RAM and 3.8 GHz of processing speed with Windows XP Professional SP2.

In a drawing, I am unable to generate an "Indented assemblies" BOM. The list shows about 7 out of 120 components and included in that are only 2 of the nearly 37 subassemblies. All subassemblies are set so as not to disclude the underlying parts in the BOM.

I conducted a test by creating a new assembly model using the same subassemblies in question with successful results.

So, I returned to my original Assembly model and cleaned up my Configurations to no avail as I suspected these were the cause. I created a new 1st level Configuration, saved the Assembly, created a new drawing and had the same problem with the "Indented assemblies" BOM as I stated above.

Then, I deleted the 2nd level Configurations without saving the Assembly Model but resolved all parts as I did before and regenerated the model; again, to no avail.

Does anyone have any suggestions what may be causing this problem in my original Assembly Model?

I have an assembly with several virtual components that I'm using in place of wires (I don't have the routing add-on). In each of these components I have set the BOM quantity to read from a custom property "QTY" that is defined as a number, which I'm planning on using to define the length of wire I'm using. My normal parts will not have the BOM quantity custom property and appear correctly in the drawing. My virtual parts show up in the QTY. column as 1. My goal is to have one column that has the correct quantity for my normal parts and also the quantity I define for the virtual part. I have created a new column in my BOM on my drawing that I would like to use for the listed BOM quantity for both normal and virtual components.

When I try to define the column with the equation =IF(`QTY`<>"",`QTY`,'QTY.') where `QTY` is the custom property and 'QTY.' is the column property frm the BOM, each cell only shows the equation and not the resulting value. If I do a simple multiplication equation the result is correct. I've also noticed that the column type is changed to a custom property instead of an equation. Is this a bug, or can I not use the IF function in a column equation? Does anyone have a better suggestion on how to approach this problem? Thanks.

BOM Part Number Linked to Filename

Hi,

Just started at a new company and was dismayed to find that the BOM property field is actually linked to the filename of the part file being detailed. Having just made a pile of piping spools using weldment configurations I was dismayed to discover this. My previous method of developing piping was to build a single part describing a complete run of piping. Once a piping run was finished it was divided it up into spools using multiple configuration states with unique part numbers described within the configuration specific part numbers.

With the file name linked directly to the BOM, this is not an option without manually editing my drawing files BOM templates (which I really don't want to do).

The simple fix would be to add a part number field that links to the BOM and by default is linked to the filename. This way things would transparently continue to operate for the rest of the users in the design group, but it would allow configuration specific part numbers to be generated. I should explain as well that part number = drawing number in the case of our design group.

I have explained this, however it fell upon deaf ears by far and large. I am looking for amunition on other cases where a filename linked directly to a BOM is a bad idea

Any input would be appreciated, and or information on how I can work around this. The one solution would be to break out my piping spools into seperate files, however this would ruin the relationship between the assembly of spools and leave me editing each part independently rather than being able to drive the whole design from on part.

Thanks for your time.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get the overall finished size of a part model that I can use in custom props to add to the BOM? I know there are ways of attaching a value to a custom prop. ect..ect. What I am looking for is similer to a Master Cam function that can create a boundry box around any part and tell you its overall size.

Am I the only one that thinks this would be cool to have?
